The 64-year-old’s iconic 26-year stint presenting the show came to an end following the culmination of the 2024/25 season.

Chapman has been joined by fellow long-time broadcasters and presenters Kelly Cates and Gabby Logan.

And according to The Telegraph, the long-time BBC employee will be in the hot seat for the first edition of MOTD on Saturday night.

Chapman will be joined in the studio by former England internationals Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer.

Champman will be no stranger to BBC viewers as he previously hosted Match of the Day 2, a gig he landed back in 2013.

It’s understood that the Beeb will rotate MOTD presenting duties for their flagship footie show between Chapman, Cates and Logan.

The trio will also take turns presenting the BBC’s new midweek Champions League highlight show.

Cates, according to The Telegraph, is slated to kick off the network’s coverage of European football next week.

The 49-year-old, who is the daughter of Liverpool and Scotland legend Kenny Dalglish, will host the highlights show for Tottenham’s European Super Cup clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesay.

Logan’s MOTD debut, meanwhile, is currently a mystery.

Although it’s highly likely she’ll host MOTD 2 on Sunday night.

Lineker lost his role with the BBC in May after sharing a video with an anti-Semitic trope on his Instagram.

The Beeb’s former highest-paid employee apologised “unreservedly” for re-posting the video which included a rat, a term historically used as an insult towards Jews.

In a video apologising for his actions, Lineker said: “It was a genuine mistake and oversight, but I should have been more diligent.

“I’ve stood up for minorities and humanitarian issues and against all forms of racism all of my life, including, of course, antisemitism, which I absolutely abhor.”
