A LEGENDARY fan-favourite racehorse labelled a ‘true warrior’ is set for the final run of his career.

Sir Busker looks like he will have his 60th and last race at York’s star-studded Ebor meeting next week.

A winner of seven races – including the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot in 2020 and Group 2 York Stakes – the son of Sir Prancealot has more than £660,000 in career earnings.

But perhaps his greatest achievement has been claiming a place in the hearts of punters the world over.

From his third-place finish in the Juddmonte at 100-1 to winning Class 3s on the all-weather at Kempton and even overcoming career-threatening eye surgery, Sir Busker has pretty much done it all over the course of seven years.

Now, aged nine, his owners Kennet Valley Syndicates believe the time is probably right to let him enjoy a well-earned retirement.

But first comes the objective of one final victory at his beloved York.

Sir Busker won the Finale Handicap – the final race of the four-day Festival – 12 months ago.

And connections are planning an emotional send-off courtesy of one last victory this year.

Kennet Valley Syndicates racing manager, Sam Hoskins said: “The idea is to run him in the Finale handicap, to try and win it again this year.

“And that may be his last race, that’s what we’re thinking.

“He’s absolutely loved York – that long straight there has really suited him – and it does feel a real fitting place to finish it off.

“We’ve had some great days at York in the past, not just with him, and we love going there and his finale in the ‘Finale’ seems very appropriate.”

Knight added: “He’s been a wonderful horse for us. He’s given Kennet Valley, the team at home and me a lot of pleasure over the years.

“We’re going to go back to York where’s he’s probably had his career-best performances – it could potentially be his last run.

“He owes us nothing and it would be nice to go there and see him run a massive race for everyone involved.”
