The British gran had been missing for days before her blood-soaked body was discovered with several stab wounds in Chieti, east of Rome.
Italian police appealed to find a man they believe may have fled the scene in a white Jeep Compass following Faiers’ brutal death.
Police from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) are in contact with both Italian police and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office concerning the death of the woman.
Detective Inspector David Greenhalgh, from EMSOU, said: “We are continuing to work with authorities both in the United Kingdom and Italy regarding this incident.
“Ms Faiers’ family have asked for privacy at this time and I would ask that this is respected.”
This morning, a police vehicle was seen outside the Shepshed residence that had one car in the drive and all the blinds closed.
Yesterday, a white Jeep was spotted being taken from the property by authorities.
Faiers was reportedly found stabbed to death in her bedroom by a horrified friend after not being able to reach her for several days.
After hearing her friend’s screams, neighbours alerted the police who then rushed to the property in the Verratti district.
Italian cops found Faiers in a pool of blood apparently dressed only in her underwear and covered by a white sheet, according to MailOnline.
According to The Times, there were no signs of a struggle and police are investigating whether she was killed while sleeping.
Former neighbours revealed in a heartbreaking statement that just weeks before her death, Michele had visited the UK for her daughter’s wedding.
One neighbour said: “She was here for her daughter’s wedding in September.
“She was obviously so happy at the wedding, this has just come as a complete shock.
“It must be awful for the daughter, she’s only just got married and is having to deal with something like this.
“She was just a lovely person, they moved out to Italy to retire.”
The British expat moved to Italy in 2015, after retiring.
Neighbours at the woman’s old home in Torquay told The Sun they remembered her as a “lovely person”.
Faiers made her last post on Instagram on October 25, just days before she died.
She shared three pictures of a sunset taken from the terrace of her house in Italy, which her partner liked.
Other photos she shared online over the years showed the pair smiling and apparently having fun on trips, with friends and with family.
