‘Do I have to apologise?’ – Gary Neville caught out with awkward Leeds comment after ‘thinking Sky Sports was on break’

GARY NEVILLE was caught out with an awkward Leeds comment during the first Monday Night Football of the season.

The pundit provided analysis of Leeds’ opening Prem win against Everton.

“That’s one group of fans I wouldn’t want to go near!”

But at half-time he was caught out with an awkward gaffe about Leeds fans.

As the advert break ended Neville could be heard making the comment before the broadcast returned to the studio.

He said of the Elland Road faithful: “That’s one group of fans I wouldn’t want to go anywhere near.”

After realising he was back on air and his words could be heard Neville burst out laughing, as did his colleague Jamie Carragher.

Neville then said: “Did you hear that?!” before repeating what he said.

Presenter David Jones lifted the awkward tension by replying: “Do I have to apologise? I don’t think they want you anywhere near them so it’s fine.”

Neville, 50, played for Leeds’ fierce rivals Manchester United for his entire career.

Fans also saw the funny side with one commenting: “That’s hilarious. wish we had banter like this on TV more.”
