A man forcibly dragged the victim behind a bush in the dead on night, Le Parisien reported.

He then proceeded to rape her in a horrifying attack.

The victim’s cries and screams alerted the crew of nearby night crime patrols.

The suspect was immediately arrested upon being found.

He reportedly said he was a 17-year-old teenager of Libyan nationality, according to Le Parisien.

However, the prosecutor’s office said: “His identity is currently being verified.”

The suspect was drunk at the time of the arrest, according to reports.

Prosecutors added that the victim, believed to be a Ukrainian national, should be re-heard.

The prosecutor said this was given “the victim not being French-speaking and being drunk at the time of the police intervention”.

It is reported that the shocking crime took place at 2.40am.

Paris police headquarters shared sexual assault statistics for the area with Le Parisien.

They said: “In 2024, the police headquarters recorded one rape in the Champ-de-Mars area, compared to five in 2023, and seven sexual assaults, compared to nine in 2023.”

The area around the Eiffel Tower is heavily surveilled, the publication further added.

It is “covered by 30 controllable camera sites, 85 fixed cameras, and ten other cameras in the Trocadéro gardens”.

Cops are still investigating the circumstances around the appalling incident.
