VLADIMIR Putin has shamelessly denied sparking the war in Ukraine – instead blaming the West during a rambling speech.
Russia‘s despot said the deadly conflict wasn’t caused by his illegal invasion in 2023 but as a result of a “coup d’état” in Ukraine years earlier which was “supported and provoked” by Nato.

Speaking at an “anti-Nato” security summit in China, Putin doubled down on his demands that Ukraine must give up land if he is to agree to a peace deal.
He said “understandings” were reached with Donald Trump during their meeting in Alaska which could open the way to peace.
But the dictator made clear any peace agreement would depend on Ukraine being neutered as a state and succumbing to his hardline demands.
He issued the same rhetoric as he has for months now, saying: “To be sustainable and long-term, the root causes of the crisis must be eliminated.”
According to the delusional despot, there were two main causes of the conflict escalating three and a half years ago.
He claims: “This crisis did not arise as a result of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, but as a result of a coup d’état in Ukraine [in 2014], which was supported and provoked by the West.
“And then by attempts with the help of armed forces to suppress the resistance of those regions of Ukraine – and those people in Ukraine – who did not accept and did not support this coup.”
In 2014, Ukrainians took part in a pro-European revolution which ousted a pro-Russian president.
Moscow responded with force as they annexed the Crimean peninsula and triggered a civil war.
“The second reason for the crisis lies in the constant attempts of the West to draw Ukraine into Nato,” Putin continued.
“We have repeatedly emphasised and said over many years, this poses a direct threat to Russia’s security.”
Ukraine Fights channel mocked “Putler” – as they blended his name with German tyrant Adolf Hitler – as they accused him of “repeating nonsense”.
They said: “He again and again repeats nonsense that the cause of the war in Ukraine is something other than Russia‘s attack.
“It seems the dictator thinks if you repeat a lie many times, it will become the truth.”
Putin was speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in the Chinese city of Tianjin which was attended by Russian allies, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Moscow and Beijing have touted the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation as an alternative way to counter to Western-led political and security blocs, including Nato.
Putin said the world needed a “system that would replace outdated Eurocentric and Euro-Atlantic models, and take into account the interests of the widest circle of countries”.
He added: “We highly value the efforts and proposals of China, India and our other strategic partners, aimed at contributing to resolving the Ukrainian crisis.”

Xi said: “We should advocate for equal and orderly multi polarisation of the world, inclusive economic globalisation and promote the construction of a more just and equitable global governance system.”
The Chinese leader even suggested that the West has been showing “bullying behaviour” towards Russia.
Putin and Modi also held a bilateral meeting this morning as India pledged its full support to Russia.
Modi shared a bizarre picture to his social media of him sat in the back of a car with Vlad as they travelled to their meeting together.
It was followed by the caption: “Conversations with him are always insightful.”
Putin is expected to hold further international meetings in the coming days with his allies who are all flocking to Beijing.
Russia’s president will be among 26 foreign leaders attending the event to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
North Korea’s Kim Jong-un is also expected to arrive soon ahead of a military parade on Wednesday.
As he convenes with meetings in China, back home Putin has continued to order deadly attacks on Ukraine.
In overnight strikes his forces kept up with their killing as two people died as a result of an attack on the Zaporizhzhia region.
An aerial bomb was dropped on the village of Omelnik, according to the Ukrainian authorities.
Ukraine hit back as they assaulted seized Russian territory with drones in Kropotkin, Krasnodar region.
