AN 89-year-old woman has been killed by a council recycling lorry in a popular seaside town, and the driver has been arrested.
The pensioner was hit by the large council recycling collection truck whilst standing on a narrow side street in Llandudno, North Wales.
The incident occurred on Brookes Street near Caroline Road in Llandudno
She was pronounced dead at the scene due to incurring several injuries when the collision occurred around 9am this morning.
The male driver is in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Police cordoned off the road to carry out forensic examinations, with the white DAF truck held there.
Sgt Duncan Logan of North Wales Police said: “The lady’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers, and our thoughts and sympathies are very much with them at this incredibly difficult time.
“The investigation is underway, and I can confirm that a man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and he remains in police custody.
“I would urge anybody who may have been in the vicinity of Brookes Street around the time of the collision and who may have information that could assist the investigation, to contact us as soon as possible.”
