MPs are so worried about being harassed and attacked over Palestine at Remembrance Sunday events they are hiring extra security, The Sun on Sunday can reveal.

Politicians have found themselves hit by a stream of abuse and blocked from visiting mosques amid the bitter political fallout of the war in Gaza.

Things have got so bad, several MPs have asked the parliamentary authorities to provide them with extra muscle during wreath laying events in their patches.

One MP said: “Many of us have had threats to our security. I certainly have. Sadly I see no alternative. I’ll be having security.

“It’s the one time when people absolutely know where we’re going to be.

“It’s sad and worrying but it is what it is.”

Another MP said: “In view of recent events I am seriously considering extra security this year,  but it pains me that in this decent free country of respect I have to even consider it.

“These people have shown they have no respect for our culture or our most solemn events they will see only an opportunity to advance their cause.”

It comes amid a furious row over a planned pro Palestine demo through London on Armistice Day.

Rishi Sunak and Home Secretary Suella Braverman have both hit out at the “disrespectful” plans.

The Met Police is currently deciding whether to take the highly unusual step of asking the march not to go ahead.

If they do, the Home Sec is expected to say yes.

A number of MPs have been murdered while carrying out their official duties  in recent years.

In October 2021, Conservative MP Sir David Amess was stabbed to death at a constituency surgery in a church hall.

Just five years earlier – in June 2016 – Labour MP Jo Cox was murdered while on her way to meet constituents at a local library.

Fascist Thomas Mair shot the mother-of- two and then stabbed her to death.
