Wan-Bissaka, 27, represented the Three Lions in the U20 and U21 age groups.
However, he never earned a senior cap and has now changed tracks in order to pursue an international career.
The defender has switched his national allegiance to the African nation DR Congo.
He made the decision after years of being snubbed by the likes of Gareth Southgate and Thomas Tuchel.
The likes of Kyle Walker, Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier have all regularly been selected ahead of him.
His first game is set for Sunday as the DR Congo take on South Sudan away at the Juba National Stadium tomorrow.
The match is a World Cup qualifier with Wan-Bissaka’s side the clear favourites as they top Group B.
South Sudan are winless after six games and are slumped in 5th place in the group.

There will be plenty of tension at the match as the political situation in the nation is on the rocks.
There are a lot of political tensions due to fears of a civil war following President Salva Kiir’s dismantling of the 2018 peace deal.
Kiir, 73, oversaw the birth of South Sudan as an independent nation after it broke free from Sudan in July 2011.
But the world’s youngest country has lurched from crisis to crisis since – facing brutal conflict, political turmoil, natural disasters and hunger.
Wan-Bissaka will also now be a team-mate of former Hammer Arthur Masuaku.
The left-back returned to the Premier League this summer as he joined newly-promoted Sunderland.

His second match in Sebastien Desabre’s squad will come against Senegal on September 9.
The game will see him come up against new West Ham team-mate El Hadji Malick Diouf.
Wan-Bissaka started the Hammers’ first two Premier League games this season which both ended in defeat.
Manager Graham Potter dropped the former United ace for the match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Kyle Walker-Peters was picked ahead of Wan-Bissaka and helped the club to a 3-0 win at the City Ground.
Wan-Bissaka spent five years at Old Trafford following his £50million switch from Crystal Palace in 2019.
He made 190 appearances for the Red Devils and won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
