Two dead after horror ‘mass casualty’ stabbing as eight rushed to hospital

TWO people are dead following a horror mass stabbing in Canada, according to reports.

At least eight people were rushed to hospital following the shocking incident in the Hollow Water First Nation, Manitoba.

The two dead are understood to be one victim and a suspect.

Patients with varying levels of injury are being taken to an emergency room at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre.

Two people were taken by helicopter, while six others were transferred by road.

A spokesperson for Manitoba Shared Health told CBC News that a code orange alert was issued for the hospital following a “mass casualty” event.

This means the hospital was warned to prepared for a sudden influx of patients.

A heavy police presence has been reported at the First Nation following the horror incident.

Several Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers were dispatched to assist.

It is reported to have happened around 8:30am local time on Thursday.

The RCMP has added there is no further risk to public safety at this time.

But roads have been closed in the area in connection to the incident.

Highway 304 south of Black River First Nation was shut by cops following the shocking tragedy.

No details about the suspect or victims have been released at this time.

Officers expect to provide an update later this afternoon local time.

An RCMP spokesperson said: “Our officers are gathering information to determine what exactly occurred this morning and we will be providing a more detailed update early this afternoon.”

The Hollow Water First Nation is found on the east side of Lake Winnipeg.

It is home to an Anishinaabe (Ojibwa) community.
