But the plane had to make an emergency landing in Thessaloniki, Greece on Monday following the reported incident.

A 35-year-old Brit is alleged to have hit a 41-year-old Turkish passenger on board, according to the Manchester Evening News.

It is unknown how the incident started, but the captain made the emergency stop at 11pm local time.

The Brit was arrested after landing, according to the Greek outlet Ekathimerini.

Meanwhile, the alleged victim was examined by a doctor before continuing on to Antalya, the Mirror has reported.

Following the mid-air incident, the Brit was due to face a prosecutor on Tuesday.

He could have been charged with dangerous interference with transportation, bodily harm, disobedience and disturbing the peace.

Ekathimerini further says he was convicted at a Thessaloniki court over the alleged assault.

He was given a 15-month prison sentence as a result.

However, he was allowed to “buy off” the sentence at a rate of €10 (£8.67) per day.

To cover the entire sentence, they would have to pay €4,570 (£3,959).

The Brit had been found guilty of dangerous bodily harm and disturbing the peace on the flight.

But was acquitted of the charge of disobedience, according to the Mirror.

The sentence was suspended pending an appeal, and the Brit was released.

He reportedly denies punching his fellow passenger, claiming he pushed him after he felt a “shake” when trying to recline his seat.

“I didn’t do anything violent,” he is said to have told the court.

The Brit allegedly admitted to having had a small amount of alcohol to drink.

Cabin crew members reportedly said he had two cans of beer.
