THE M57 has been closed in both directions after a serious collision on the busy route.
The closure has thrown thousands of journeys into chaos, as traffic official urge drivers to seek alternative routes.

Traffic on the M57 has ground to a halt
The northbound route has been closed between Junction 1 at Tarbock and Junction 3 at Knowsley.
Meanwhile, the southbound carriageway has been closed between Junction 3 and Junction 2 at Prescot.
Police forces have been spotted on the roads, alongside an ambulance crew.
Traffic has now ground to a halt, as drivers wait for the congestion to clear.
An update on National Highways website reads: “Merseyside police are leading the response at this stage with National Highways Traffic Officers and contractors assisting with strategic closures on the approach.
“Traffic caught within the closure is being cleared via the rear of the queue by police and Traffic Officers.”
In the meantime, National Highways has urged drivers to seek alternative routes to their destinations.
Merseyside Police have been approached by The Sun for comment.
