THE next ranking event of the snooker season is here as the English Open returns to Brentwood.

Neil Robertson is the defending champion after he narrowly beat Chinese cueist Wu Yize 9-7 in last year’s final.

The Aussie arrives in good form after beating Ronnie O’Sullivan to win the lucrative Saudi Arabia Masters last month.

Robertson will have to be on top form if he wants to retain the Steve Davis Trophy, with the likes of World No1 Judd Trump and world champion Zhao Xintong all chasing his crown.

He will face no challenge from O’Sullivan as the seven-time world champion has opted to skip this year’s tournament in his hometown.

The English Open represents the first of four events on the Home Nations Series, with players competing for another massive prize pot.

When is the English Open 2025?
