THE flags are going up all over the country.

At first I wondered whether it was a short-term craze that could fizzle out.

It is most certainly not.

Operation Raise the Colours shows no sign of slowing . . .  almost every day the movement feels bigger.

The proliferation of flags on lampposts and bridges in towns and cities is extraordinary.

On almost any high street outside of the capital you see flashes of red, white and blue.

Flags were much in evidence at the march in London last week, where the sight of thousands waving theirs in unison was striking.

Stretches of roads in Birmingham are lined with flags.

In coastal towns, fishing boats have proudly hoisted them.

Even in quiet rural lanes, Union Flags hang from hedgerows and farm gates.

This is a grassroots movement driven by ordinary people, not politicians.

It’s a collective two fingers up to the establishment.

We have had enough of our country and its history being trashed.

We have had enough of being called far-right simply because we believe in tough border controls and our national identity.

We have had enough of gutless leaders who put the will of foreign courts above our national interest.

Patriotism is back and is here to stay.

Raise the flags!
