Yego, 36, appeared to pick up an injury as he walked away from the run-up area.

The Kenyan was visibly upset as he left the area, wiping away tears from his face.

He lay down on the floor after pulling out of his attempt as TNT Sport cameras panned to his coaching team.

His coach looked equally concerned as he was slumped in his seat with his hands on his head.

Early reports have claimed that the star has suffered a suspected adductor injury.

Fans showed their worry for the star as they reacted to the moment on social media.

One posted: “The age is starting to show.”

A second wrote: “This one hurts. Wishing him a quick recovery.”

A third commented: “He was doing so well. This one is painful.”

A fourth said: “Quick recovery the Javelin Man.”

Another added: “Very unfortunate. He had just started to rediscover his form.”

Yego learned to throw javelins by watching videos on YouTube and has insisted it helped him learn his technique.

He told India Today: “It’s not just about watching. It’s about what you do with what you watch.

“You have to take those videos and apply them. You need passion.

“Even today, video analysis is part of our training routine.

“But if you’re just watching for the sake of watching, it won’t help. Watch with intent. Learn.

“Let it shape your technique and discipline. Make it a positive influence on your life, not just entertainment.”

Yego started practising his skills by throwing sticks at his father’s farm in Kenya.

But it took him until he was further into his schooling when he realised he could become a competitor in the sport.

He added: “We started by throwing sticks, but it wasn’t about training. It was just kids playing around.

“It was only in high school that I realised javelin is actually a serious sport.

“That was around 2004 when I watched the Olympics in Athens and saw Andreas Thorkildsen win.
