CHARLES LECLERC’S weekend went from bad to worse after his plane was caught in a STORM and forced to make an emergency landing on the way home from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Leclerc, 27, suffered a horror weekend on Formula One’s visit to Baku after crashing out in qualifying before a botched swap job with Ferrari team-mate Lewis Hamilton caused him to finish P9.

But he explained his plane had been forced into an emergency landing in Italy after being caught in a storm
He was forced to rent a van with fellow F1 star Carlos Sainz and make a two-hour drive back to Monaco
Aside from a retirement in 2022 following an engine issue, it was his worst-ever result in a completed race on the street circuit.
However, Leclerc‘s weekend from hell only got worse as he travelled back home to Monaco.
In a video shared to his social media, Leclerc explained how he and Williams star Carlos Sainz – who celebrated his first podium since leaving Ferrari last season – had been forced to make alternative travel arrangements after being caught in a storm.
Leclerc, who has more than 20 million followers on Instagram, said: “So, after a difficult weekend in Baku, I thought it couldn’t get any worse, but…”
The Monegasque then turned his camera to face Sainz, 31, who was behind the wheel as they drove through a tunnel when he said: “We are driving a van.”
Leclerc is heard laughing behind the camera, before asking: “Where are we Carlos?”
The Spaniard explained: “In the middle of Italy.”
Leclerc then asked why, to which Sainz replied: “We were diverted for a storm, we couldn’t land in Nice, so we landed in the middle of Italy.

“We rented a van, and now we are on our way to Monaco.”
Sainz, who became the second F1 star after Alain Prost to score podiums with Williams, Ferrari and McLaren, cheekily joked: “A two-hour drive, and we will make it in one hour and a half.”
The race in Baku, won by an imperious Max Verstappen following major fumbles from McLaren championship leaders Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, brings an end to the European season of F1.
The motorsport now moves into another tricky street race at the Singapore Grand Prix on October 5 before switching to the United States to start its tour of the Americas.
