Manchester United travel to Brentford this weekend hoping to achieve something they haven’t managed since May 2024 – win back-to-back Premier League games.

The Red Devils – and under-pressure manager Ruben Amorim – breathed a sigh of relief last weekend after narrowly holding on to a much-needed 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford.

It was just their second win of the season, lifting them to 11th in the table with seven points from a possible 15.

However, both of United’s victories so far have come at home, and Amorim will need to address his side’s away form if they are to mount any kind of meaningful challenge this season.

But that could be easier said than done.

United are winless in their last seven Premier League games on the road (D2, L5), a run stretching back to a 3-0 victory at Leicester in March.

Their record in London is also cause for concern – they’ve lost 15 of their last 24 visits to the capital (W3, D6) and now risk losing back-to-back league meetings with Brentford for only the third time in their history.

On a more positive note, Amorim’s side have registered the most shots in the Premier League this season (81) and currently boast the highest expected goals (xG) in the division at 10.13. In fact, United are averaging 16.2 shots per game in 2025–26 – a noticeable increase from 13.9 last season under Amorim.

As for Brentford, they’ve endured their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign, collecting just four points from their opening five matches.

That slow start comes as little surprise following the departure of several key players over the summer. Keith Andrews’ side have conceded 10 goals so far and dropped eight points from winning positions – more than any other team in the division.

Remarkably, Brentford have scored the opening goal in four of their five matches this season, but managed to win only one of them.

Still, recent history offers some encouragement. The Bees have won two of their last three home Premier League meetings with Manchester United (D1) – matching their total number of home wins against the Red Devils in the previous six league encounters (W2 D1 L3).

Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has managed to steer clear of the referee’s notebook so far this season – but that run might end on Saturday.

The 24-year-old Uruguayan picked up a staggering 15 yellow cards in 45 appearances across all competitions last season – averaging one every three games.

He’s yet to be cautioned this term, but with Casemiro suspended, Ugarte is expected to start – and 9/5 with William Hill looks a tempting price for a booking. He’s already committed more fouls than any of his teammates, despite playing significantly fewer minutes.
