Sky Sports enjoy most watched weekend in history as millions tune in for Europe’s epic Ryder Cup victory

SKY SPORTS broke their viewership record during the weekend.

That was mainly thanks to the Ryder Cup, which kicked off on Friday and ended on Sunday.

However, many fans also tuned in for the Premier League, EFL, WSL, SPFL, Bundesliga, rugby league, tennis and NFL.

The action, that included Arsenal’s smash and grab win at Newcastle, amassed a grand total of 8.8million viewers.

Sky Sports issued the following statement: “This weekend was the most watched in Sky Sports history with 8.8million viewers tuning in.

“This included watching a historic Ryder Cup win for Team Europe, action from the Premier League, EFL, WSL, SPFL and Bundesliga as well as rugby league, tennis and NFL.”

Fans joined in to celebrate Sky Sports’ big milestone on social media.

One viewer tweeted: “Congrats to Sky on their record.”

Another commented: “That’s a massive audience. Just shows live sports are still king when it comes to must-see TV.”

A third wrote: “Big win.”

While another added: “Smashing it!”

Golf fans enjoyed an entertaining weekend that saw Team Europe retain their Ryder Cup crown in a dranatic finale against Team USA.

It followed wild scenes throughout the weekend that included Rory McIlroy telling fans to “shut the f*** up” and his wife Erica Stoll getting hit by a drink by rowdy supporters.
