LUIS DIAZ admits he had no idea how good Harry Kane was until he started playing alongside him.

The pair’s Premier League careers overlapped by a year and a half, with Diaz joining Liverpool in January 2022 and Kane leaving Tottenham the following summer.

But only since Diaz joined Kane at Bayern Munich in a £65.5million deal two months ago has the Colombian truly appreciated his quality.

Asked which player had impressed him in Bavaria, Diaz told Bild: “Harry Kane. From my time at Liverpool, when he was still at Tottenham, I knew he scored a lot of goals.

“But when I trained with him for the first time, I thought: ‘This guy is brutal.’

“He does everything – scores goals, controls the game, and even defends.

“He totally surprised me. I’m very happy to be able to play alongside him now.”

Diaz and Kane, both started in the 5-1 thrashing Bayern dished out to Cypriot side Pafos on Tuesday night.

Kane, who produced a masterclass against Chelsea last month, added two more goals to his collection, making it a dizzying 17 in just nine games this season.

And although Diaz didn’t get on the scoresheet, he has still come racing out of the blocks with three goals and three assists in his first five Bundesliga matches.

The 28-year-old attributes the early success to his team-mates.

He said: “The whole team helps me. The dressing room sticks together, it’s calm and down-to-earth. It feels very family-like.

“That, and the trust the coach [Vincent Kompany] gave me right away, was very important for my great start here in Munich.

“We have many great attacking players who not only think about scoring themselves but also help their team-mates.

“That gives me a lot of confidence and security. It’s incredible to play attacks with them.”
