Leeds vs Tottenham preview

Fans of neutral tones will be thrilled to see the Whites face off against the Lilywhites this Saturday afternoon, as Leeds host Tottenham at Elland Road.

But given their recent encounters, it’s unlikely to be a bland afternoon in Yorkshire.

The last nine meetings between these two sides have produced an astonishing 37 goals, averaging 4.1 goals per game – with Leeds conceding four in each of their last two home Premier League matches against Spurs.

That trend, however, may not continue this time, as Leeds have started the new campaign in impressive fashion.

Daniel Farke’s side have accumulated eight points from their opening six matches – points that could have been higher were it not for conceding two stoppage-time goals at Fulham and against Bournemouth.

Home advantage should play a role too. Leeds have now gone a full year without losing a home league game, extending their unbeaten run at Elland Road to 23 matches since 28 September 2024.

Still, history hasn’t been kind when it comes to Tottenham: Leeds have lost nine of their last 11 Premier League games against Spurs, including each of the last four in a row.

Additionally, Leeds have struggled in early kick-offs, failing to win any of their last 11 Premier League matches starting before 3pm (D2, L9).

As for the visitors, they have also enjoyed a strong start to the campaign, sitting fourth with 11 points from a possible 18.

However, the shine is in danger of wearing off slightly following a run of three draws in four matches – their most recent coming from two goals down to draw with Champions League debutants Bodo/Glimt.

That’s also the third time in four games that Frank’s side have conceded first, something he’ll need to address if Spurs are to leave fortress Elland Road with maximum points.

On a more positive note, Spurs have picked up seven points in their three away Premier League games in 2025-26 (W2 D1), as many as in their previous 11 away games combined (W2 D1 L8).

We’re backing a score draw when these two sides face off in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off, priced at 17/5 with William Hill.

Tottenham arrive fatigued, having played six games in the last 18 days, and are showing signs of wear – with a recent run of drawn results. Meanwhile, Leeds have turned Elland Road into a fortress, going a full calendar year without a home league defeat.

The stats back up a tight affair. Leeds boast an expected goals conceded (xGC) of just 2.08 at home, a figure bettered only by Arsenal and Bournemouth. Spurs are solid on the road too, with the fifth-lowest xGC away from home at 3.47.

With both sides defensively sound and Leeds tough to beat at home, a score draw looks like solid value.

Carded

Leeds star Sean Longstaff looks generously priced at 11/2 to be carded on Saturday.

Since making his first Premier League start for Leeds on August 30, no player has made more tackles in the league than Longstaff (19 – level with Spurs midfielder Joao Palhinha), winning 68.4% of those challenges.

He’s yet to receive a caution this season but should be right in the thick of the action against a side he was booked against in his last appearance against them.
