He suffered a series of serious injuries, including four broken ribs, a fractured vertebra and a collapsed lung.

But perhaps the most worrying was a pericardial rupture, a tear to the sac that encases the heart.

And now the 40-year-old has given fans a view into his recovery process.

A photo uploaded to his Instagram story shows Froome in good spirits as he undergoes rehabilitation treatment on his chest.

Several wounds can still be seen now, almost a month and a half after the accident, with some still healing.

He broke his silence on the incident upon his release from hospital last month.

His statement read: “Relieved to be heading home from the hospital today.

“Thanks to the staff at the HIA Sainte Anne.”

Froome was flown to the Toulon-based military hospital after clipping the kerb at 30mph and colliding with a road sign.

The injuries have meant he will not be able to cycle for a significant period of time.

But that is not slowing him down, making a public appearance just weeks later at a charity gala in Zurich.

He was part of a panel consisting of fellow sporting legends Usain Bolt, Anthony Joshua and Mika Hakkinen.

He said: “I think this was a motivation for me to try and push in terms of the rehab and getting out of hospital in time to be ready for this event because it sounds like its going to be an amazing evening.”

The new pictures show that rehab is still a way to go, but fans will be happy to see the beloved sporting figure not allowing his injuries to keep him down.
