A YOUNG woman was found dead in her bed by her heartbroken mum after she came home from a Christmas party, an inquest heard.
Millie Grace Brian, 18, had attended the festive bash with friends and family at Beeston Hockey Club in Nottinghamshire.
Millie was tragically found dead by her mum
An inquest heard she was drinking vodka and possibly wine at the party on December 21 but was not described as “intoxicated”.
She left with her mum Lucy, her mum’s partner and a male friend at around 1am to go home.
The court was told Millie began feeling sick and started vomiting but there were no concerns about her health at the time.
Her mum went into the teen’s bedroom the following morning and discovered Millie dead.
The inquest heard Millie was lying in the same position as the night before.
DC Adam Penn, of Nottinghamshire Police, said there was no third-party involvement in her death and nothing of concern was observed on CCTV footage from the party.
A post mortem found Millie’s alcohol level was 187mg per 100ml of blood.
Her cause of death was given as aspiration of gastric contents as a result of alcohol intoxication.
Coroner Nathanael Hartley said: “By way of comparison, the current legal limit for driving a vehicle in England and Wales is 80mg per 100ml of blood.
“The level of alcohol itself couldn’t have caused death, but it would have been sufficient to cause vomiting and a reduced consciousness level, which it did in this case.
“This led to the inhalation of gastric contents into the airways, leading to death.”
Paying tribute to Millie following the inquest, her mum said she was “the best person”.
Lucy added: “She was amazing and feisty but had a heart of gold.
“She was such a fun person to be around. She was the light in any room. She was my best friend and soulmate.”
Beeston Hockey Club, where Millie worked for two years, also paid tribute.
The club said: “Millie was a much-loved member of staff and she had the face of an angel.
“She will be sorely missed by all those who knew her.”
