It was his first time winning the World Grand Prix and he said: “Very happy to tick it off.

“It’s not the easiest tournament to win. This week has been so tough, but now I’ve picked the trophy up it’s one I can tick off and there’s not many left.”

Littler also shared some photos from the final on social media, writing: “Been so happy with my darts this week and all the work has paid off. World Grand Prix champ.”

Humphries responded to the Instagram post to congratulate him, commenting: “Well done mate! Well played.”

After losing the final on Sunday, the 30-year-old admitted: “It was one of those games.

“He was so clinical in the first four sets. Double 16 has been my friend in the last three years, but it wasn’t my friend tonight – very unfortunate.

“When I was 4-0 down I just wanted to give the crowd something. I wasn’t playing for myself, I was playing for the crowd because the game had got away from me.

“It’s hard to take. It’s disappointing because I felt I was going to give him a better game than I did.

“I have to just get better. I have to work harder. If I don’t he’ll walk away with it all the time. I need to work harder than I ever have because I want to match him.”

Meanwhile, Littler stunned fans by announcing that he would be playing at a World Youth Championship qualifier on Monday.

He said: “I’ll head to the World Youths tomorrow and see everyone and have a bit of fun.

“I don’t think anyone is going to be my friend tomorrow, but it’s 20 minutes up the road and I will try my best. I could have had the day off, but why not?

“Play the World Youth, then two ProTours in Wigan and have the weekend off.”

Littler won the 2023 PDC World Youth Championship ahead of his breakthrough at the World Darts Championship the following month.

However, he skipped the competition last year.
