A MORRISONS worker has been repeatedly stabbed during a frenzied attack in front of terrified shoppers.
The 34-year-old woman was assaulted at the supermarket in Castle Quay on St Helier waterfront in Jersey just after 1pm on Saturday.
The attack took place at the Morrison’s supermarket on St Helier waterfront in Jersey
Police probing the horrific attack said the 55-year-old man “was known” to his victim.
Armed cops swarmed to the area, which was crowded with people doing early Christmas shopping.
As shocked staff rushed to help the badly injured woman, a man was seen fleeing from the store.
Police later said that a man had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is in custody.
Sources at the scene said the woman is an employee at the store but it’s not known if she worked on the check-out or in another “front of house” position.
It’s also not clear whether her attacker worked at Morrisons or entered the store as a customer.
Officers cordoned off the area and set up crime tents outside the store, which was evacuated.
Jersey Police said there is no threat to the wider public.
The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital in a “serious” condition.
Morrisons, as well as the walkway between the store and Cooper’s coffee shop, was sealed off.
Police said in a statement last night: “Officers were called to reports of a stabbing at 1.30pm this afternoon at Morrisons, Castle Quay, in St Helier.
“A 34-year-old female had been stabbed multiple times by a man who left the scene.
“She was taken to the Emergency Department by ambulance and remains there in a serious condition.
“A 55-year-old man who is known to the female has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and he remains in police custody at this time.
“Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen this or who has any information.
“They can call police on 612612 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org”
Since the incident, forensic experts have been seen entering the store, which is closed until further notice.
Morrisons have been approached for comment.
