A FUMING mum has slammed her daughter’s school after she was punished for wearing fake tan despite it being applied for a dance competition.

Natalie White was stunned when teachers singled out Year 7 pupil Bella, and other members of the Samba Dance & Fitness group, at Whitworth Community High School in Lancashire.

The girls were required to wear the fake tan for a dance competition the previous weekend, a regular occurrence the staff are aware of, claimed Natalie.

But, Bella was slapped with a detention and behaviour points last week after teachers claimed her hands were too orange – while other students who sported the same bronzer were let off the hook, according to the raging mum.

She told LancsLive: “She’s been dancing for several years and they compete every couple of weekends. It’s been known at school that all these kids do dancing.

“She’s going out, she’s exercising as part of the dancing. All the kids are off the streets and doing something, you’d think the school would be more supportive.”

Natalie added their alleged discrimination against Bella was a sign the school are “not promoting extra-curricular activities”.

According to the baffled parent, the penalised girls had been wearing fake tan for five years before being punished last week.

“A lot of them are confused,” she added, “It’s unfair. It’s obscene”.

“Other kids at other schools aren’t getting punished. It’s disgusting,” Natalie claimed.

The furious mum claimed the school had been informed of the dance competition prior to Bella and the group’s punishment.

A spokesperson for Whitworth Community High School said: “The use of fake tan is not allowed in school, as per our school uniform policy. We have recently reminded parents of the rules around fake tan and asked that any fake tan applied over the weekend for extracurricular activities is washed off before returning to school.

“A student who attends school with fake tan fully applied receives a sanction in line with our school policies, and letters are issued reminding parents/carers of our policy regarding fake tan.”

The Sun Online contacted Whitworth Community High School for comment.

It comes after a schoolgirl in Liverpool was sent home following a row over her tan and eyebrows, her mum claimed.

Year 11 pupil Megan Davies was reportedly told off by teachers at Lord Derby Academy in Huyton, Liverpool, for wearing too much “fake tan” and wearing eyebrow make-up.

But, her mum said her tan was real as the family had just come back from a holiday in Portugal and her eyebrows are naturally thick.

Meanwhile, a dad slammed one the UK’s “strictest” schools for forcing his daughter to wear shoes that gave her blisters.

Plus, furious parents have hit out at another school’s new strict uniform policy – as they claim children face “military-style checks” over their clothes.
