The president was said to be walking toward the SUV, which was being used to close off intersections for his departure, when a gray sedan rammed into the parked armored vehicle, per the Associated Press.
After continuing to try and move through the blocked intersection, the Secret Service surrounded the car and drew their weapons.
The driver was instructed to put their hands up, with the president whisked away to a separate car where the first lady was waiting.
They were taken home, and President Biden’s schedule was otherwise unaffected by the crash.
Further details about the incident are limited at this time, and it’s unclear if the motorist’s actions were intentional.
The driver has yet to be identified.
The U.S. Sun has contacted the Secret Service for an official comment.
