The 50-year-old, who was discharged from hospital yesterday, is due before the Criminal Courts of Justice this afternoon.

He was taken into garda custody and questioned by detectives at Store Street.

A garda spokeswoman said: A 50-year-old male will appear before Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin on today’s date 21st December 2023 at 2pm, charged in relation to a serious incident at Parnell Square East, Dublin 1 on the 23rd November 2023.”

Last week, the mum of a little girl left in a critical condition said she is “still fighting” in hospital.

She gave an update on the child’s condition on a GoFundMe page which has raised over €50k to date.

The mum said: “Our little girl is a warrior. She is still fighting.

“She remains in the PICU with hopes of moving to the ward before the end of the year.

“We can all feel the love and prayers every second of the day.

“Had it not been for all of our friends, family and everyone’s support, we wouldn’t have had the strength to stand, and for that we thank you all.”

At the beginning of the month, the mum said her child “has shown incredible strength”.

She said: “Dear all, thank you so much for the incredible gesture and kindness you have shown our family during these troubled times.

“Your thoughts, prayers and generosity have and will go a long way.

“Our little girl has shown incredible strength and still here with us.

“We don’t know yet what lies ahead as it is still early, but she is resilient and limitations will not stop her.

“Thank you so much. All the love we can give.”

Hero creche worker Leanne Flynn also remains seriously ill in hospital after the incident.

The horror stabbing triggered a wave of brutal riots across Dublin.

Around 500 thugs looted shops, clashed with hundreds of riot cops and torched cars, a tram and a double-decker bus – in what Taoiseach Leo Varadkar branded a “night of shame”.

He said: “Those involved brought shame on Dublin, brought shame on Ireland and brought shame on their families and themselves.”

More than 400 police officers were drafted in to quell the street violence across the capital.
