The shocking crash happened in Whitehouse Lane in the Cotswolds village of Shipton Moyne, Gloucestershire.

It’s less than two miles from Highgrove House where Charles and Camilla like to spend much of their time.

Reports said air ambulance crews were called to the tragedy after the woman fell off, before she was dragged along the narrow lane, which is flanked by farmers’ fields and woodland.

She was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance but died from her injuries on Christmas Day.

The force said they have since arrested two men after the shocking smash.

One man is believed to have made off from the scene on a quad bike.

He was later found and arrested following a search involving the police helicopter.

A second man was also later arrested.

One of the men was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, driving while under the influence of drugs, no licence and no insurance.

The two suspects, aged 29 and 30 and from the Cotswolds, were questioned in custody, held on suspicion of causing death or serious injury by dangerous driving.

The pair have been bailed with conditions to return to police in February, pending further enquiries.

Tributes have since poured in online for the woman after the tragic crash on Christmas Day.

The force is asking anyone who saw the crash or the quad bike being driven before the incident to contact Gloucestershire Police quoting incident 251 of December 23.

Gloucestershire Constabulary said in a statement: “A woman injured in a collision in Shipton Moyne, near Tetbury, on Saturday (23 December), has died in hospital.
