Thankfully no one was injured but the prestigious establishment was left partly damaged by the fire.

Police have now charged a 16-year-old boy with arson.

He will appear in custody at Highbury Youth Court later today.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters raced to the school at around 10am on Wednesday.

London Fire Brigade confirmed at the time they were investigating the cause of the fire.

Nearby homes and a shopping centre were evacuated as a precaution.

The 150-year-old school has a number of famous alumni, including Antonio Clegg, the eldest son of ex-Deputy PM Nick and his wife Miriam.

Euan Blair, 39, a multi-millionaire businessman and son of ex-PM Tony, was deputy head boy at the Catholic comprehensive.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “The Brigade was called at 1011 and the fire was under control by 1147.

“The cause of the fire is under joint investigation by the Brigade and the Met police.”
