THE founder of the Wetherspoons pub app drinking game used it to get 200 donations of bangers and mash for the homeless.

It involves people posting the establishment they are in and table number to a Facebook group, with their story.

If any of the group’s 400,000 members are moved, they use the pub’s app to pay for drinks or food for the table.

Chris Illman, 42 — who set up the group in 2018 — asked players to order £7.85 bangers and mash for the homeless, in a stunt arranged with The Bright Helm in Brighton.

He racked up 200 portions in 12 minutes — the whole stock — then filled three bin bags with donated snacks.

He and the staff then delivered it all to local homeless people.

Chris, from Portsmouth, said: “I was emotional seeing the success of the appeal.

“Being able to feed the homeless was so touching.

“I couldn’t believe how quickly we sold out of the food.

“200 meals doesn’t scratch the surface but raising awareness to the group and the nation has been really positive.

“We had arranged it all with the manager and set ourselves up on a table, which was the table number we told the group to order to.

“When the meals sold out, we asked for snacks and the staff filled out four bin liners with packets of peanuts and crisps.

“One of the managers came out with hundreds of tickets in their hand saying they had already run out!”
