Officers scrambled to the scene in Fife after receiving reports of a crash involving a double-decker bus.

The bus had been driving along the road when it came to the top of the hill.

But freezing conditions overnight had turned the water on the road to ice and the large Stagecoach bus lost control.

As it began to go down the hill the back end of the bus skidded and ended up on the pavement and crashed into numerous cars.

The driver then mounted the pavement on the other side of the road and tried to go towards the grass in an effort to stop the vehicle.

But it wasn’t enough to stop the heavy bus and the back end continued to roll on the city road.

It then caused the bus to do a full 360-degree swing, crashing into other vehicles on the road as it went.

The bus eventually came to a stop at the bottom of the hill.

Police have confirmed that no one was injured as a result of the crash and no one was on the bus at the time.

The road was closed for hours as cops dealt with the incident but it has since reopened.

Photos from the scene were shared on Facebook group Fife Jammer Locations with the caption: “Top of the Glen’s, Glen Feshie Kirkcaldy, pure ice, bus van hit house, near miss, school bus stuck”.

Locals flocked to the comments to share their shock at the horror incident and warned others about the icy conditions.

One person said: “So lucky it didn’t crash into house and driver is ok”.

Another added: “Oft that’s lucky it didn’t flip”.

Someone else wrote: “Scary!!!”

While a fourth chimed in: “Wow that’s crazy hope everybody ok”.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Police were called around 8.30am this morning to a report of a road crash involving a bus on Chapel Road.

“There were no reports of any injuries.

“The road was initially closed but has now reopened.”

A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Scotland said: “One of our vehicles operating on service SM1 was involved in an incident on Chapel Road in Kirkcaldy this morning in icy conditions.

“There were no passengers on board at the time, and no injuries as a result.

“Safety is our absolute priority, and we will investigate the full circumstances involved.”
