Three students from Bournemouth and Poole College were among those taken to hospital.
None of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening.
The fight was said to have been between rival groups of Afghans and Eastern Europeans.
Police were later seen at the nearby Roundhouse Hotel, which houses migrants at taxpayers’ expense.
One student, who asked not to be identified, said: “There are Afghan and Romanian gangs at the college and they hate each other.
“There was a fight a few weeks ago and they said, ‘This is not over’ — and it all kicked off again.
“Two of them pulled out machetes and we think two people were stabbed.
“An hour before this happened, we were doing a survey in the college about whether we feel safe.”
Police said two men, both aged 24 and a girl of 17 were arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.
