TWO taxi drivers told a court of their suspicions after picking up an aristocrat and her partner on the run with their baby.

Constance Marten, 36, and Mark Gordon, 49, spent hundreds on taxis in a bid to keep their newborn after four other children were taken into care, the Old Bailey heard.

The pair got into a cab in East London carrying supermarket bags and wearing Covid masks at night in January last year, the court heard.

Cabbie Abdirisakh Mohamud said he feared “something wasn’t right”.

He said: “The more I thought about it, the more concerned I felt about the baby.”

He dropped them in North London where another cabbie, Hasan Guzel, drove them to East Sussex.

He heard a pet “meowing” — but later saw “it was a baby”.

He said: “I thought why didn’t she tell me about this, it’s been nearly four hours we have been travelling.”

The baby’s body was later found in a shed in Brighton.

Marten and Gordon, of no fixed address, deny manslaughter.

The trial continues.
