ARSENAL are closing in on Rangers’ 15-year-old starlet Alexander Smith.

The Scottish born attacking midfielder holds dual citizenship and has represented the USA Under-15’s before moving to the Scotland Under-16 team, where he has scored once in five appearances.

Mikel Arteta could have another busy summer transfer windowAFP

The Gunners have been tracking Smith for some time and are set to offer Rangers a six-figure compensation fee for their outstanding talent.

Smith starred for the Glasgow giants at the East Mallorca Cup in Spain last April where he picked up four Man of the Match awards in five ties, including a win over Liverpool.

Arsenal are now ready to open talks with Gers about recruiting their international midfield ace.

Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu could have a busy summer on their hands and could prioritise signing young players.

Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams ahead of a potential summer transfer.

Williams has scored five goals and provided 10 assists in 24 games this season and has also caught the eye for Spain.

Another youngster thought to be of interest is Ajax prodigy Jorrel Hato.

The 17-year-old sensation has already captained Ajax and could bolster central defence if he joins, while also providing cover at left-back.
