TRACK AND TRACE (3.40 Exeter, nap)
He showed some promise over hurdles for trainer Jonjo O’Neill but is really coming into his own now tackling the bigger obstacles. After an educational debut at Leicester, he went down in a head-bobber at Catterick before going one better in the North Yorkshire Grand National back there last month. Despite the testing ground, this seven-year-old tanked along and drew away from his rivals before idling on the run-in. The handicapper has been more than fair with a 5lb rise in the weights and he should be able to improve past that on just his fourth spin over fences. Seeing out this marathon trip holds no fears and he has more to come at this level.
HURRICANE HIGHWAY (1.30 Exeter, nb)
Harry Cobden stays on board after partnering him to a solid second here last time out. It would probably have been a win but for a late mistake as he handled the soft ground and three-mile trip well. The handicapper has left his mark alone and he can grind out a win for trainer Evan Williams who does well with stayers.
BIG BEE HIVE (2.24 Sedgefield, treble)
He enjoyed his last visit to the Northumberland track where he buzzed off from his rivals to land a five-length win. He wasn’t stopping at the end of 2m3f there on testing ground and should find these conditions right up his street. A 7lb rise means he’ll need to pull out more but that was a promising chase debut and he can land the bees and honey.
DOLLY DELIGHTFUL (2.33 Exeter, Lucky 15 bet)
Has been knocking at the door and doesn’t need more to strike on handicap debut. She finished her race strongly when second here last time and the stamina-sapping ground will play to her strengths. The handicapper has been fair with an opening mark of 109 and she looks hard to beat.
