THE world was safer and more stable with Donald Trump in the White House, Boris Johnson has told The Sun.

The former PM said: “When you look back at Trump’s last term in office there is little doubt that the world felt safer and calmer and more stable.”

“Right now much of the world is craving the stability that goes with strong and decisive American leadership,” he added.

“A lot of nice well meaning people are quivering like smacked blancmanges at the idea of a new Trump presidency, I am not quite sure why they are so alarmed.”

And fellow ex-PM Liz Truss also backed Trump’s return, telling The Sun: “The United States under Biden has projected weakness.”

She added during a visit to the United States: “We need a Republican back in the White House who is prepared to take on the leftist global establishment.”

The ex-premiers all but endorsements came amid a row over Trump’s comments that he would urge Putin to attack Nato members that did meet the alliance’s defence spending targets.

Speaking in Washington DC at the Conservative Political Action conference, ex-Brexit Party boss Nigel Farage defended the controversial comments.

He said they were “being wilfully used by those who want to build European defence”.

“There are even calls now within Europe for the EU to have its own nuclear deterrent, which is insane.”

Also backing a return to the White House for Trump, Mr Farage said: “I do think defence, security are becoming just about the most important things politically for the next five years.”

Both Farage and Truss will speak at CPAC, an annual gathering of American conservatives, ahead of star turn by former President Trump on Saturday.
