RASMUS HOJLUND has picked up a muscle injury that is set to keep him out of action for three weeks.

It is terrible timing for the Manchester United striker as he had just started to find his form in front of goal.

Hojlund’s double against Luton means he has scored in six consecutive Premier League games.

His run stretches back to Boxing Day when he finally netted his first domestic goal in a thrilling 3-2 win over Aston Villa.

He broke a Prem record by becoming the youngest player ever to achieve such a feat, but he is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

Hojlund could miss two to three weeks after suffering a muscle injury.

That means he will miss United’s crunch FA Cup clash against Nottingham Forest next week as well as the Manchester Derby.

The Red Devils have five matches before the international break next month and the Dane could be absent for each one.

Erik ten Hag is short of options to lead the line in Hojlund’s place so Marcus Rashford could be forced to play centrally.

It is a big setback for Hojlund who has scored seven goals in his last six games.

That record means he is the Prem’s leading scorer in 2024, with all of his goals coming in games which United have either won or drawn.

And the manner of his emergence from early season doubts suggests Hojlund has now adapted to the Prem – and arguably quicker than many of the League’s all-time greats did at the start of their careers in England.

There are nine non-British Isles players in the top 25 of all-time Prem scorers, a list headed by Alan Shearer.

But of that group, only four – Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Thierry Henry, Sergio Aguero and Sadio Mane – scored more goals in their first Prem season than the seven Hojlund has now already managed in his debut campaign.
