Horror as four-month-old baby dies in Backbarrow – with man, 38, and woman, 36, arrested

TWO people have been arrested after a four-month-old baby boy died after being rushed to hospital.

The horror unfolded following an “incident” at a home in Backbarrow in the Lake District on Tuesday.

The baby was taken to Furness General Hospital but sadly couldn’t be saved and died shortly after.

A 36-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child.

They have since been released on bail while the investigation continues.

Cumbria Police confirmed they were called to the home by paramedics at around 4.30am on February 20.

A spokesperson said: “An investigation is underway by a dedicated team of detectives and other specialists in order to establish the full circumstances of the death in full consultation with the coroner.

“A 36-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child. They have been released on bail.

“Enquiries continue and residents may see an increased police presence in the area.”
