“THEIRS is true valour, in the face of indescribable aggression.”
The moving words of King Charles, hailing the bravery of Ukrainians on yesterday’s second anniversary of the war’s outbreak, are spot on.
GettyDefence Sec Grant Shapps has warned Putin could target rivals like Alexei Navalny on British soil again[/caption]
As tyrant Vladimir Putin’s “meatgrinder” offensive enters its third year, Britain and the West must support them to the hilt in this vital battle.
President Volodymyr Zelensky defiantly vows: “We will prevail.”
And for the preservation of Western democracy and the rule of international law, that must be the outcome.
But with their troops out-shelled by ten to one in some areas, Zelensky’s army needs more military aid fast.
After all it is not just Ukrainians who are under threat from Russia’s murderous regime.
As Defence Secretary Grant Shapps says today, blood-drenched Putin could well kill again on British soil, using Novichok as he did so brazenly in the Salisbury poisonings.
Mr Shapps is right to warn that, rather than take on political opponents like Alexei Navalny in democratic elections, Mad Vlad just “bumps them off”.
There is little doubt Putin will long remain an active threat to Brits, war or no war.
He cannot be allowed to trample over Western values with impunity.
The Russian despot is driven by a psychotic brutality and, sickeningly, he thinks he is winning.
On behalf of every brave Ukrainian, a united West must prove he is wrong.
Cheer to the grafters
THIS newspaper has urged Jeremy Hunt to slash taxes at every opportunity and we will continue to do so.
But if the Chancellor needs any more encouragement, he should listen to our hard-working readers.
From a single mum to a pub landlord and a married couple, their message on Pages 26 and 27 is loud and clear.
They all have their own small businesses and they all want soaring taxes slashed.
As White Van Man Stephen Keough says: “We’re the lower-income grafters who constantly get asked to pay more tax and we will end up on benefits if it continues.”
These are precisely the voters the Tory Party should be helping: self-starting entrepreneurs doing their best to earn a crust.
The March 6 Budget is the last chance to do so before the election.
Don’t say you haven’t been warned, Mr Hunt.
