It came after Sir Keir hit out at the PM for not condemning his predecessor Liz Truss, who this month galivanted around the US with controversial right wing figures.

In an interview at the American Conservative Political Action Conference, Ms Truss stayed silent while far-right thug Tommy Robinson was described as a “hero”.

The move sparked criticism from the Labour benches.

But in one of the most passionate PMQs exchanges for months, the PM said: “I don’t believe a single member of this House supports Tommy Robinson.

“But if Sir Keir wants to talk about former leaders and predecessors, the whole country knows his record because he sat there while antisemitism ran rife in his party and not once but twice backed a man who called Hamas friends.”

Mr Sunak praised shadow front benchers Rachel Reeves and David Lammy for not supporting Mr Corbyn.

Turning to Sir Keir he added: “But he didn’t because he’s spineless, hopeless and utterly shameless.”

An angry opposition chief hit out at Mr Sunak for leading the “political wing of the Flat Earth Society”.

Defending himself against allegations he supported an antisemitic party leader, Sir Keir said: “I have changed my party for the better, he is being changed by his party.

“When they refuse to accept any blame for the ruin of the last 14 years, you do wonder who they think has been running the country all this time.”
