More than 200 arrests for terror-related offences made in past year – the most since 2019

MORE than 200 people were arrested for terrorist-related offences in the UK last year – the most since 2019.

The number was also 52 more than in 2022 although much less than the peak in 2017 when more than 450 were held.

A majority 65 per cent are locked up for Islamist extremist views, while 26 per cent held extreme right-wing ideologies

In total cops made 219 arrests for, 61 of which resulted in a charge, 98 were bailed and 46 were released without charge.

Some 46 per cent of those arrested under the Terrorism Act were White, while 34 per cent were Asian, according to official stats.

Brits have accounted for 62.9 per cent of all arrests since 2001, Home Office figures show.

There are 244 prisoners currently behind bars in prison for terrorist offences.
