LONDON mayor Sadiq Khan has presided over a fatcat surge at City Hall, with over 1,000 bureaucrats on six-figure salaries.
As the capital’s residents brace themselves for inflation-busting council tax increases, research shows the number of staff on more than £100,000 has surged from 655 in 2018/19 to 1,146 last year.

Elliot Keck, head of campaigns at the TaxPayers’ Alliance, which carried out the research, said: “City Hall is now bursting at the seams with the growing number of officials bringing home the big bucks.”
A spokesman for Mr Khan said: “As mayor of one of the largest cities in the world, Sadiq makes no apology for offering competitive salaries.”
Last month Khan sparked more fury as he splurged £6m of taxpayer’s cash wokifying the London overground.
The Mayor was accused of “virtue signalling nonsense” as he announced new names and colours for six lines.
They include the “Liberty Line”, the “Windrush Line” and the “Suffragette Line”.
TfL insisted the changes would make it easier for passengers to identify different routes.
Previously they were just collectively referred to as the “ginger line”.
Mr Khan lauded the move as “a hugely exciting moment, transforming how we think about London’s transport network”.
He said: “Giving each of the Overground lines distinct colours and identities will make it simpler and easier for passengers to get around.
“In re-imagining London’s tube map, we are also honouring and celebrating different parts of London’s unique local history and culture.”
But Tory mayoral candidate Susan Hall blasted the renaming as a waste of money.
