How did Jade Cargill get into wrestling?
While Jade Cargill didn’t make her wrestling debut until 2020, wrestling has always been part of her life.
She grew up idolizing the likes of New World Order, ECW, D-Generation X, The Rock, and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and would often practice wrestling moves with her brother when they were kids.
“It’s something I always have been into. Me and my brother used to be in the front yard practicing all kinds of wrestling moves. I say it all the time, I got bruised knees, broken this and that,” she told Bleacher Report in an interview.
“I’ve done a lot. I love wrestling. I used to impersonate The Rock a lot. I used to impersonate John Cena. I loved it.
“I grew up watching it. I got away from it around maybe around 15. And then I started really focusing on sports and playing basketball. But I mean, I think everybody grew up watching wrestling and the ’90s. If you were born in the ’90s, it was everything.”
After receiving her master’s degree and working as a psychologist, she realized that she couldn’t let go of her passion for wrestling.
In August 2019, she attended a tryout for WWE at the Performance Center.
She did not make the cut, but was encouraged by her mentor WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry so she continued training.
Former WWE star Heath Miller and Richard Borger accepted her at their Face 2 Face Wrestling School.
“So after my tryout, it kind of just lit a fire in me and I loved it,” she explained.
“I was like, ‘You know what? Damn, I can really do this. This is fun, I’m enjoying it.’ Of course, it hurts, all the bumps, but I enjoyed it. And once I start something, I don’t put anything down.
After that, the former basketball star went to QT Marshall’s Nightmare Factory.
On November 12, 2020, Tony Khan announced that Cargill had signed a multi-year contract with AEW, and the rest, as they say, is history.

He used to be part of the MLB and played for multiple teams, including the Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, and Boston Red Sox.

Cargill and Phillips met through a mutual friend when she was still playing basketball.
In 2017, they welcomed a daughter named Bailey Quinn, and in 2022, they became part-owners of the Austin-based professional softball franchise, Texas Smoke.
Per Cargill, Philips was initially against her becoming a professional wrestler, but changed his mind after he saw her in the ring.
“He didn’t want me to get hurt,” the wrestler told People. “But he came to the gym one day and I was having a match and since then, he’s seen me in a different limelight. I’m a very soft spoken woman, but now he’s seen me in there just taking charge and doing all these crazy moves.
“And he was like, ‘Wow, I am so proud of you. That is crazy!’ He was Gung-ho about it from then on.”
