Ronnie O’Sullivan makes history with staggering season earnings – and will bank six-figures if he wins Tour Championship

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN has had his most successful season having earned £1.16million and could bag another six-figures if he wins the Tour Championship.

The 48-year-old has won five major tournaments this term – the second time in his 32-year career.

This includes winning the UK Championship in York, the Masters in London and World Masters of Snooker in Saudi Arabia – the three events individually had £250,000 winners’ cheques.

And with two events still to play O’Sullivan could see his prize fund skyrocket.

The world No1 became the first player to win in Saudi Arabia after beating Luca Brecel 5-2 in the World Masters in Riyadh on Wednesday.

Making this his fifth win this season to go with his victories at Shanghai Masters, UK Championship, Masters and World Grand Prix.

Since the beginning of his professional career this is the first time O’Sullivan has gone over the £1m mark in the same season.

The Rocket has so far bagged £1.16m from 11 tournaments with the Tour Championship and World Championship up for grabs.

If O’Sullivan manages to find another victory in the Tour Championship which started on Monday he could take home £150,000.

And what is more extraordinary is the Englishman has managed this despite opting out of several events including the European Masters, British, Northern Ireland, Scottish and Welsh Opens, Shoot Out and German Masters.

His total has overtaken the previous high mark of £1.01m that was set by Judd Trump in 2018-19 when he claimed his one and only Crucible crown.

Trump that season was amounted the enormous prize fund from his success in the Northern Ireland Open, Masters, World Grand Prix and World Championship.

O’Sullivan’s prior success was when he collected £922,000 in the same season when he won the Shanghai Masters, Champions of Champions, UK Championship, Players Championship and Tour Championship.
