Liverpool swung in a corner to Darwin Nunez, who flicked a header towards the back post.

Diaz stood waiting in acres of space and volleyed the ball home with an acrobatic effort.

Man Utd fans slammed their side’s defensive setup from the set-piece.

One said: “Not a single United player was marking Diaz. Absolute shambles.”

Another added: “Well done United. Can’t even defend a simple corner.”

More raged: “Nobody picking up Diaz allowing him all that time and space is criminal.”

A fourth fumed: “Diaz had the entirety of Manchester in space there.”

The anger continued: “Diaz sat there in ten yards of space in the six- yard box.”

Commentators Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher highlighted that Kobbie Mainoo seemed confused as to who he should be marking in the box, which allowed Diaz to run free.

Liverpool had a several chances in the first-half as they tore apart Man Utd’s defence time and time again after a strong beginning to the clash from Erik ten Hag’s side.

It led to Neville saying it would be “a positive” if his former club got to the break at just 1-0 down.

Three points would take Liverpool back to the top of the league after title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal both won yesterday.
