General Election 2024 updates: Vote ‘will be held this summer’ with Rishi Sunak set to fire starting gun

RISHI Sunak is poised to call an election – and the date Britons will go to the polls is just weeks away.

In a stunning move the PM is to trigger a vote with an expected election date of July 4, The Sun understands.

A Downing Street announcement is set to take place in a matter of hours.

Labour are currently way ahead in the polls, tracking at 44 per cent, while the Tories are on 23.
