THE Crisfords are set to try and carry on their big race farming in Canada after class act and huge Breeders’ Cup hope Algiers missed a run at Belmont over the weekend.
Simon and Ed Crisford’s quality stable is on a high after victories for Vandeek in the Group 1 Middle Park at Newmarket and Poker Face in the Group 2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein over at Longchamp.

Algiers, who was brilliant when chasing home Japan’s Ushba Tesoro in the Dubai World Cup, was meant to tackle the Woodward Stakes which took place at Belmont at the Big A Sunday evening having been postponed twenty four hours.
But he had to miss the race, with Simon Crisford telling me: “Algiers hadn’t been able to train for a week (due to adverse conditions) and the track was still unraceable.
He heads to Woodbine next Saturday instead.” Algiers is expected to target the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, but a Classic spot is always possible.”
Incidentally, I’ll be very surprised if Vandeek turns up in the Dewhurst, but time will tell.
The Breeders’ Cup is at Santa Anita in the first week of November, and Europe is going to hold a huge hand judged by current aspirations.
Away from Algiers, just a handful of the names to look out for include fast youngster Big Evs in the Juvenile Turf Sprint, Paddington, Inspiral, Master of the Seas and Inspiral in the Mile, Bradsell and Highfield Princess in the Turf Sprint, Warm Heart, Nashwa, Tahiyra and possibly Emily Upjohn in the Filly & Mare Turf and Auguste Rodin, Mostahdaf and Westover in the Turf.
Also in the Turf Sprint is Live In The Dream, the Nunthorpe hero who would, if scoring, probably push owners winner Steve and Jolene de’Lemos over the edge!

He is settling into life at Keeneland before taking in a Breeders’ Cup prep run as the video above shows. What a story.
Meanwhile, you might have seen that Ffos Las was abandoned on Sunday.
For some the decision came far too late. I wasn’t there so it’s impossible to say.
But I was sent the above video of someone walking the track. It’s hard to believe the meeting was every going to take place however late the rain came!
Also, we still wait for the fixture list. I’m against Premier Saturdays because I think they make no sense as it already happens.
That said, if it means the end of the crazy Super Saturday where there is the July Cup at Newmarket, plus York, Ascot and Chester then I would be all for that.
The BHA couldn’t decide on Premier Saturdays but keep Super Saturday could they? Surely not.
