JUVENTUS boss Max Allegri has hailed former Arsenal star Wojciech Szczesny as one of the “best goalkeepers in the world.”

The 33-year-old stopper, who had an on-pitch heart scare this year, swapped London for Turin in 2017 after an 11-year stint.

Juventus boss Max Allegri is delighted with the Pole’s performances this seasonRex

Szczesny made 181 appearances for the Gunners, winning successive FA Cups before enjoying a loan spell at Roma.

He was then sold to Juventus for a cut-price £10million fee and has since won three titles while making 222 appearances.

However, Szczesny came under fire this season after conceding five goals in just two matches.

The Poland star let one slip by in Juventus’ 3-1 win over rivals Lazio.

And in the next match, Szczesny conceded four in a defeat to Sassuolo.

But he has since made amends with two clean sheets against Lecce and Atalanta.

The latter match saw him pull off several big saves, including tipping one shot onto the crossbar, to earn Juventus a point.

And Allegri reckons there are no question marks over Szczesny’s class, labelling him one of world football’s top stoppers.

He said: “I’ve no doubts, Szczesny is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe. He’s among the very best.”

Since his departure, plenty of goalies have attempted to fill Szczesny’s boots at the Emirates.

Petr Cech, David Ospina and Emi Martinez all had a go between the sticks to no avail.

Bernd Leno, Matthew Ryan and Runar Alex Runarsson also tried their luck in goal for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta thought he cracked the code when Aaron Ramsdale helped Arsenal finish second last season.

But responsibility now lies with Brentford loanee David Raya, who has taken the No1 position ahead of a potential permanent transfer next summer.
