ROBERT MACINTYRE was hailed as a man of the people as the hungover Ryder Cup hero was spotted getting a Jet2 flight home from Rome.

The Scot, 27, hit the headlines before last week’s showpiece as he revealed his wacky pyjamas.

He then played a key role in helping Europe seal a convincing 16½ – 11½ victory over USA against the odds at Marco Simone.

That triumph prompted a wonderful team photo with the winning stars posing and kissing their glamorous wives and girlfriends before the real party got underway.

MacIntyre, who was making his rookie appearance at the event, then led a chorus of 500 Miles as part of Team’s Europe’s celebration party.

And the star certainly appeared to have enjoyed himself deep into the night, toasting the win after he was photographed looking sleep-deprived at the airport waiting for his flight home yesterday.

However, it was MacIntyre’s choice of budget airline Jet2 to take him back that made golf fans fall even more in love with him.

The Team Europe Ryder Cup official Twitter account shared hilarious twin-up snaps of MacIntyre, who secured an impressive 2.5 points for the Europeans, to their 358k followers last night.

The first showed him waving his cap in one hand and a bottle of beer in the other while partying with the rest of his triumphant team-mates, while the second was him looking a little worse-for-wear as he posed in front of a Jet2 departure board at the airport ahead of his flight to Glasgow.

And fans instantly jumped into the comments to hail the Oban-born ace after the snaps were captioned with: “Morning after the night before.”

“Flying Jet2… what a bloke,” declared one fan.

Another said: “@robert1lefty staying humble on a Jet2 flight… looks well after the celebration. What a legend.”

“He’s one of us,” said a fellow fan, with another saying: “King Bob on the Jet 2 flight home. A King amongst men.”

And another tweet response read: “Jet2 after going undefeated rookie. Get this man a PJ.”

DP World Tour’s Ru Macdonald also jumped into the responses, but he was adamant that it was no surprise to see the new fan-fave on a no-frills airline.

He said: “Bob paid for all his friends and family’s travel and accommodation last week.

“Despite all the heroics, he was always jumping on the Jet2 flight with those people that have supported him from the beginning.”
