RISHI Sunak unveiled his secret weapon yesterday as his wife delivered a touching tribute before his big speech.

Businesswoman Akshata Murty made a surprise appearance as his warm-up act at the Tory conference — and wore a £385 suit from London firm The Fold.

The mum-of-two said: “The reason why I am here is really quite simple, and it is because Rishi and I are each other’s best friends.”

She continued: “We are one team and I could not imagine being anywhere else but here today with all of you to show my support to him and to the party.”

Mr Sunak meanwhile spoke of the true “British story” his immigrant family began three generations ago, with him now holding the highest office in the country.

He said: “Never let anyone tell you that this is a racist country. It is not.

“My story is a British story, a story about how a family can go from arriving here with little, to Downing Street in three generations.”

He told how his Richmond, North Yorks, constituents said his background was no big deal when he was selected.

He also pointed out that several members of Cabinet have a similar background, including Home Secretary Suella Braverman.

Asking what the Tories could offer immigrants, Mr Sunak asserted: “The chance to become Prime Minister.”
